Blackthorn, the new Mateo Gil film produced by Arcadia Motion Pictures has already closed its main cast. The lead roles will be Sam Shepard as James Blackthorn, Eduardo Noriega as Eduardo Apocada, Magaly Solier as Yana, and Stephen Rea as McKinley.

Sam Shepard, considered one of the greatest playwrights of America (in fact even has a Pulitzer Prize under his belt), is an actor, director, screenwriter i musician. He began his career as an actor in Terrence Malick’s Days of heaven (1978) with Richard Gere and Brooke Adams. This led him to act in other major films, the most notable was his performance in Elegidos para la gloria (1984) which earned him the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. Since then he has appeared in numerous features such as Steel magnolias (1989), The pelican brief (1993), All the pretty horses (2000), Swordfish (2001), Black Hawk down (2001), The Notebook (2004), Bandidas (2006), The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007), Accidental husband (2008), Felon (2008) or Brothers (2009), among others.

Eduardo Noriega, began his career with a number of important short films by some of Spain’s most important directors, Alejando Amenábar, Mateo Gil and Carlos Montero. But it was the debut film of Amenábar, Tesis (1996), which made him a well known actor. He participated with Basque director again under Matero Gil in Abre los Ojos (1997). He has also appeared in hits such as Plata Quemada (2000) by Marcelo Piñeyro with Leonardo Sbaraglia and El Método (2005).
