Began his career as writer/director with the cult film short Mama. Thanks to the numerous awards it received, he obtained a scholarship from the Basque Government to study for a Master in Filmmaking at New York University. At NYU he directed the short film Truth And Beauty which was nominated for the College Emmy Awards, among other prizes. Torremolinos 73, his debut feature, premiered at the Malaga Film Festival 2003, the most important showcase for the latest Spanish cinema, and was awarded Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress. Torremolinos 73 was one of the leading box office films in Spain in 2003-2004 and was nominated for four prizes at the Spanish Film Academy GOYAS 2004 – Best Screenplay, Best New Director, Best Lead Actor and Best Lead Actress.
